Artisanal winemaker in Amyndeon region specialized in the production of top quality sparkling wines from Xinomavro and Assyrtiko excusively by the traditional method. There is a very natural approach in the vineyard with organic cultivation methods and selected biodynamic practices but also in the cellar. Laurens and his wife Annette control themselves in a ”family affair” mode the entire production which is 50.000 bottles for 2017 (42.000 are sparkling wines). All work in the cellar is done by hand, even the process of remuage. Their wines undoubtedly express what we call the “real thing”. Wines with great purity and authentic character, allowing the remarkable terroir of Amyndeon to shine through each bottle and vintage.
It was only ten years ago that Laurens and Annette decided to abandon their luxury style of living in Holland and establish themselves in the Amyndeon region. Now their sparkling wines are considered to be among the best in the world. They did so well that Champagne expert Tom Stevenson started praising their wines by pointing that ”Domaine Karanika has the potential to produce a world class sparkling wine and of all the budding new sparkling wine superstars I am currently following, Hartman is the only one not using classic Champagne grape varieties”. It is furthermore no coincidence that Extra Cuvée de Reserve is served by the glass in the best restaurant in the world for 2017, Eleven Madison Park in New York!
